Going Green in Bangkok!

March 25, 2016 By Alexis

IMG_4594 Hey there folks! It’s been a while, and there’s been some big changes over here. I’m currently in Thailand, and will be until May. For those who don’t know me personally, I spent 2009-2011 traveling around South East Asia whilist spending the majority of my time living here, in this wonderful country. Why Thailand? Man oh man, how much time do you have? I’ve been fixated on Asian culture ever since I was a little girl, but it wasn’t until later into my teens that I really develop a love affair with the South East Asian countries. To me, there’s no place more dreamy, exotic and rich with culture, with the most AMAZING FOOD!

Which leads me to this post! After a 30 hour plane ride, I hunkered down in Bangkok to recuperate before continuing on to my final destination down in the southern part of the country. I also wanted to use this time to check out the local food scene, because it’s thriving. Thai food in essence is a very friendly cuisine for those of us who aim to eat Paleo and gluten free. Rarely is wheat flour or dairy used, and of course rice is the glue that holds most every meal together, but….easily omitted.

What I found during my brief Bangkok layover was the most lovely little gem of a cafe and grocery called Organic Supply Bangkok . While it’s certainly influenced by western juice, smoothie bars, and health food stores, that’s what I love about it! While I was living here it was awfully difficult to track down those specialty items that we take for granted in the US like, chia seeds, or spirulina. And as much as I love and adore Thai food, we all need a break from the spice every now and again!

Being the designer that I am, the first thing that caught my eye was the fantastic choices in type/signage and decor this cozy place has (not to mention your obligatory adorable soi dog out front!).

The range of products sold here is really extensive! So difficult not to walk away with a little bit of everything! Along the right wall of the store are all unique kitchen wares.

Directly opposite are all sorts of all natural, artisanal beauty products, with incredible packaging design (Thai’s really know packaging design people!).

Colloidal silver…a MUST for any traveler to ward off air born illness (spray around your airplane seat, and on your tongue).

More fantastic, healthy foods + gorgeous packaging design! I wish I had the kitchen facilities at the time to purchase and try all these goodies.

Gotta love any place with a vintage piano and cameras lying around.

Lots of cute seating options.

And a big communal table I chose to sit and…..

organicmarket_18

Enjoy my kale chia smoothie and spicy smoked salmon rolls with greens. Just what the doctor ordered after one too many horrendous airplane meals with far too few veggies ( I’m looking at YOU DELTA!)

organicmarket_19

Plenty of reading materials on hand and lovely, mellow music wafting through the air. A wonderful space to work or study as well.

So much soothing greenery everywhere you look.

organicmarket_23

At the register you’ll find all sorts of baked goods (not necessarily gluten free or Paleo, but so much in the place is!) and their signature tea collection!

Along with really cute bags. Something I really appreciate is that Organic Supply charges if you want a bag for your purchases. Thailand has a HUGE plastic bag problem, and recycling programs are a joke here so, this is really conscientious and lovely.

Finally, Here’s Karn, my wonderful “Green Barista“. The staff is so lovely, and if you live in Bangkok or plan to be visiting, Organic Supply is a MUST VISIT! I can’t wait to go back.

Omg what a cool and gorgeous store! Your pictures are amazing, especially the portrait. I love the typography too, obvi that is the deciding factor in whether I visit an eatery, haha. I love this post!
