Everyone knows broccoli is healthy. It’s basically the old school poster child for “superfoods” before kale and everything else trendy came on to the scene. Vitamins, minerals, tons of fiber, yes, that’s obvious, but what else is so special about broccoli that should make you put down the kale and reach for it more often ? I recently came upon an article that addressed this. The answer is that it contains an extremely potent anticancer, and anti-neurodegenerative compound called Sulforaphane.
Arugula Pesto + White Sweet Potato Linguine & Clams
Is winter over yet? Anyone? Anyone? (Buller?). Ugh. Dreaming of warmer days over here, which inspired this summery dish. Usually I’m all about cooking with whats in season but sometimes you have to transport yourself to a warmer climate via a good meal. Read More
Roasted Sunchoke + Fennel Soup
Well, the snow came and went here in NYC, and now it’s coming again so I thought I’d cook up a huge batch of soup to last through the week. I’ve been wanting to experiment with sunchokes (or Jerusalem artichokes) for a while now, and luckily they’ve been plentiful at my neighborhood Whole Foods all winter. Read More
Cheesy sausage + brussels sprouts bake
New York City has been pretty much at a standstill for the past day due to the huge snowstorm that moved through. I always find it amusing when people here freak out about this much snow. Yes, it’s unusual for NYC standards but I spent 18 years of my life growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (veeeery close to Canada) and this sort of thing doesn’t faze me too much! Roasted Beet Dip with Tahini & Goat Cheese
Well, here we are, 2016! How the hell did that happen? I have to be honest. I’ve never been a big fan of the traditional Western New Year. It just seems like such a strange time to start over, resolving to start fresh in the dead of winter when the earth is frozen and asleep (well, for most of us here in the United States at least). Simultaneously, our bodies and minds are following suit, dormant and feeling the urge to stay stagnant and hibernate.Read More
Grain-Free Pumpkin Bread With Chai Spice Cashew Coconut Icing
Upon thinking about what my first post here should be, I went over my recipe list of grain free, gluten free, Paleo, autoimmune-friendly recipes ideas, looking for something fancy in order to make a big splash. Something utterly complicated and over the top and fantastic; something adapted from “Bon Appetit” or the prized family recipe of the grandmother of the grandmother of your grandmother who came over here on a boat from Italy. Well, that never came to fruition. I took the easy way out, the most “basic blogger bitch” way out I can possibly think of…a pumpkin spice recipe. In autumn. WOW! Groundbreaking stuff. But wait, hear me out:Read More
